10. Svendsen (arranged by Johan Andersen) Funeral Andante JSV92 Johan Severin Svendsen (1840-1911) Norwegian composer, conductor and violinist Born in Oslo. He studies flute, clarinet, mainly violin. He belongs to a theater orchestra and travels comfortably as a violinist at the age of 21. In 1863, he entered the Conservatory of Leipzig and studied under Reinecke and others. He moved to Paris in 1868 and worked at the Odeon Theater as a violinist and arranger. He returned to Leipzig again in 1870 and worked in the theater as a concertmaster. In 1872 he returned to Oslo to take leadership in Norwegian music activities. In 1886 he moved to Copenhagen, where he was a conductor, introducing new Western music to the Danish music world and enhancing his musical culture. He retired in 1908. "Funeral Andante" composed in 1894 has various versions such as violin and cello and organ, violin and reed organ, cello and reed organ, in addition to the orchestra version. The relationship between Andersen and Svenson is unclear, but they must have known each other since 1893 was the year Andersen resigned from the Berlin Philharmoniker and returned to Denmark.
