11. Heller / Ernst at the time of passing, Op. 30-1
Stephen Heller (1813-1888) Jewish Hungarian composer. Pianist, teacher
Born in Pest, Austria (now Budapest), he was supposed to be a lawyer, but he decided to move on to music. At the age of nine, he played Dussek's "Concerto for Two Pianos" with his teacher. He studied under Anton Halm (pianist) in Vienna. He travels all over Europe at the age of 15. He moved to Paris at the age of 25 and became friends with Berlioz, Chopin, Liszt, etc., and eventually became recognized as a performer and teacher there. There are many works of his piano, and he can be called a piano poet more than Chopin in the sense that he devoted his life to the piano. "Fugitive XI" is the first song of "Pensées fugitives Fleeting Thoughts" (piano solo song) consisting of 10 small pieces (published in 1851). At the beginning of this song, the following words are quoted from the following poem by Lamartine, Alphomse de (1790-1869). Mais pourquoi m'entrainer vers les seènes passées. Je veux rêver et mou pleure. (But why do you drag me into the past scene? I want to dream and cry.)]. Heller arranged and published this collection of pieces for violin and piano (published in 1842) with H.W. Ernst (see Volumes 1 and 2 of this series). Considering the year of publication, the original piano solo was published separately later. |
