8. Cuii Melancholy Waltz (no opus number)
César Cui (1835-1918) Russian composer, music critic, military man, one of the Russian Fives. He is not a pure Russian, his mother is Lithuanian, and his father is a mixed race of French. His father arrived in Vilnius, Lithuania (now the capital of Lithuania) during a rout with a Napoleonic soldier on a Russian expedition and married a local woman. Kui is both a musician and a soldier. He studied bastion architecture at the Polytechnic Institute in St. Petersburg and left his mark as an expert. Although he was an expert in military training, he was forced to continue composing. He has written 15 operas and has a huge number of works. However, smaller pieces, piano pieces, songs and chamber music than his opera are performed today. Published in 1911, "Melancholy Waltz" is an unusual instrument designation for the violin or concertina (a type of accordion) and the piano |
