7. Casella Siciliana Op. 35-6
Alfred Casella (1883-1947) Italian composer, pianist, conductor, music teacher
Born in Turin, Italy. In 1896 he entered the Paris Conservatory. He studied piano under Louis Diémer and composition under Gapriel Foret. He returned to Italy during World War I and taught the piano at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. In 1923 he formed the "Italian New Music Association" to promote Italian music. The resurrection of Vivaldi in the 20th century is largely due to Casella's efforts. "Siliciano" is the sixth piece of the piano piece "11 Pieces for Children" composed in 1920. In all of this piano piece, the range of both hands is narrow for children, but it is interesting because modern harmony is used and educational consideration is given. . |
