13. Rimsky-Korsakov Serenade Op. 37
Nikolai Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov (1844-1908) Russian composer. One of the Russian Fives. Born in a military aristocratic family, he has shown his talent since his early childhood. He joined the Marine Corps at the age of 12 and began playing the piano in 1895 under the guidance of Balakirev. In 1871 he was appointed professor of orchestration, composition of the Petersburg Conservatory. He conducts the work of introducing Russian music to Western Europe. In 1888, he was shocked by Wagner's drama "Der Ring des Nibelungen", which was performed in Petersburg, and devoted himself to opera activities. Colorful orchestration such as "Capriccio Espagnole" and "Sheherazad" guided the composers after him. Composed for cello and piano in 1893, this "serenade" was arranged by the composer himself in 1903 into cello and orchestra. |
