12. Raff Pastorale Op. 85-2
Joseph Joachim Raff (1822-1882) Born in Lachen, on the shores of Lake Zurich, Switzerland. He was a music teacher while working as a school teacher, but he came into contact with Liszt's performance in Basel and went to Germany on a Liszt performance trip. He worked as an assistant to Liszt in Weimar in 1849, orchestrating Liszt's works. He moves to Wiesbaden independently of Liszt. The third of the six pieces for violin and piano released in 1856, "Cavatina," became famous as a masterpiece. This "Pastorale" was not famous for the second song in the collection, but it is a fascinating work. He was invited by the director of the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt in 1877 to raise the bar for his conservatory and died there. Although he is a late-blooming composer, he has left a huge number of works such as symphonies, chamber music and opera. |
