7. Gillette Madrigal (no opus number)
Ernest Vital Louis Gillet (1856-1940) French cellist and composer. His surname is also pronounced Jie in French style. He is born in Paris. He graduated from the Paris Conservatory in 1874 and was the principal cellist of the Paris Opera, Colonnes Symphony Orchestra, Lamrou Symphony Orchestra and Monte Carlo Symphony Orchestra. His operetta "Daughters of the Michelle Sea" was a great success. He has worked on film music and has more than 400 songs. This work was composed for the piano and features a syncopated melody. The original song is in E major, but it has been ascended twice and transposed to F major. |
