8. Reinecke Romance Op. 3-1
Carl Heinrich Carsten Reinecke (1824-1910) is a German Romantic composer, pianist, conductor and educator. Born in Altona, he started composing by the age of seven and held a public concert as a pianist at the age of twelve. He studied under Mendelssohn and Schumann. He is not well known that he became a Danish court pianist in 1846. He has no acquaintance with Kuhlau. His flute concerto, sonata "Undine" and ballads are famous as flute songs. This "romance" was composed in 1842 and is dedicated to the aforementioned Ernst, with violin or cello instructions, and the fact that it is composed in 12/8 time signature is reminiscent of Ernst's tragic song. Moreover, Reinecke arranged this tragic song into a cello in a collection of lyrical songs (1905) co-arranged with Julius Klingel.
