5. Ernst Sad Song, Op. 10
Heinlich Wilhelm Ernst (1814-1865) A violinist and composer born in the Austrian Empire (now Czech Republic). Born in Brunn (now Bruno), he started playing the violin at the age of nine and was said to be a child prodigy. He later studied violin and composition at the Vienna Conservatory. He listened to Paganini's performance and he woke up to the performance of transcendental technique and played all over Europe. He left behind many variations and fantasies of violin and retired in 1862 due to neuralgia. This tragic song-Op. 10 was composed in 1829-38 and is famous as a violin masterpiece. There is also an arrangement for the flute of A. B. Fürstenau. |
